JM Formaldehyde-free™ Insulation

Fiber glass insulation is made of two things; glass and a binder. The binder glues the thin glass threads together. This is “bonded” fiber glass insulation, found in batts and rolls. Johns Manville Formaldehyde-free fiber glass insulation utilizes a bio-based binder that eliminates binder-related formaldehyde emissions. Other manufacturers may use formaldehyde in their binder.

Performance Advantages:

  • Formaldehyde Free: will not off-gas formaldehyde in the indoor environment.
  • Thermal Efficiency: provides effective resistance to heat transfer.
  • Sound Control: reduces transmission of sound through roofs and walls of metal buildings.
  • Noncorrosive: does not accelerate corrosion of metal studs, pipes or wiring.
  • Durable: will not rot, mildew or otherwise deteriorate.
  • Resilient: bonded glass fibers will not pull apart during normal applications and resist settling, breakdown and sagging from vibration.
  • Flexible: forms readily around corners and curved surfaces.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommends limiting exporsure to formaldehyde as much as possible.

Unfaced, Unlaminated Fiber Glass

The Simple Saver System® utilizes it's fabric liner as a continuous vapor retarder and requires unfaced and unlaminated fiber glass. This is an inherit difference between the Simple Saver System and “traditional” metal building insulation which has a laminated facing glued directly to the insulation.
